Rasmita was born in Kenya in 1968.

After studying law at Manchester University and attending Law School in Guildford, she began her legal career in 1991 working for the corporate giant, Linklaters. She then joined the shipping team of the international law firm, Clyde & Co where, for 18 years as a senior lawyer, she provided advice and assistance to cargo underwriters in the marine insurance communities of London, Antwerp and Marseille.

She is well versed in obtaining security for Recovery actions by way of vessel tracking, arrest and where necessary, Court-sanctioned sale.  Rasmita appears regularly before the High Court and before London maritime arbitrators, and works closely with lawyers in other jurisdictions to maximise the potential of her clients’ Recovery claims.

Rasmita also advises on the defence of General Average resulting from piracy, the payment of ransoms, groundings and engine breakdowns.

Rasmita is married with two children. She is interested in Jainism, enjoys walking, cooking, entertaining and spending time with her family.
